"She's real bad off,"
he said. The others looked down on the them both. Wisp winced. It felt so final, now that it was said aloud. Somehow worse than he thinking it to himself.
"We have to get her out of this place,"
Wisp said. He glanced at Aza. She shrugged.
"Nobody will be coming to our rescue, I don't think. Well- King Rye might if he finds out in time but I doubt he will."
Wisp looked to Tink. Her eyes were filled with unshed tears. He could see the lips trembling.
"WE'll have to rescue ourselves,"
she said.
Mila lay unconcious on the hay, unaware of what went on around her. Bruises spanned her face, arms, and legs. One leg looked like it could be broken though it was hard to tell from her twisted position. A prick grew in Wisp's heart. This woman was the only one who could lead them from this disaster. Without her more wars would break the tide as folk struggled for power. As long as she lived there would be hope for peace.
"I can help. This place is plenty damp so I can get water, once we're outside I'll be set,"
Mari said. She flicked her wrist. Water droplets that ran down the walls congregated to sit in a ball on her open palm.
"That's something. There aren't any weapons for those of us without water abilities though,"
Wisp said. He glanced around. Just the pile of hay and a bucket.
"I'll get you a sword and dagger,"
Tink said. She went to the door.
"Oh, guard! I'll do anything with you if you'll just get me out of this cell for an hour!"
Tink piled honey into her voice. She sounded like a woman ready for activity but coated with sweetness.
"Course we can help a young lady like yourself for one hour,"
a guard said from outside. He chuckled and turned the key in the lock. Tink winked at Mari. She formed the water into ice then separated the lump into sharp daggers of ice. The door creaked open. Mari threw her daggers. The man fell with a soft oh.
"Alright. What do we do once we have her out?"
Tink asked as she unarmed the fallen soldier.
"We get to the nearest camp of friendly men. This is the last push, we have to get everyone together to fight as one. Why Los didn't do it at the start I don't know,"
Aza said. She grimaced at the man laying on the floor."Now or never,"
Wisp said.
